Typeface Design

I started designing some typefaces yesterday, mainly based on the typography in the art deco poster I've been researching. Below is my first idea, it started of with a sketch so I could get my head around what characteristics made up the typeface.

I then moved into illustrator, I constructed the typeface on a 10x10 grid, which you can see if you enlarge the image. The typeface I am trying to emulate is a kind of hand drawn poster typeface so the inconsistencies between the characters are part of the charm.

Belwo: no grid

I also tried a different variation of the 'A' and 'H' although I think I prefer the first version.

Once I had a full alphabet I started to put it into some words
